Women's Ski Jackets

For women who are avid skiers, staying warm and dry means purchasing ski jackets that offer resistance to icy winds and protection from dampness. Women's ski jackets should have a relatively high level of insulation without making the fabric feel bulky or inhibiting movement. Other features can include sturdy zippers, hems and cuffs adjustable in length with several lined pockets.

Ski Jackets for Women

One of the most popular styles in ski jackets for women are those with an inner shell similar to a vest with a zipper closure and a layered outer shell that also zips for extra warmth. The necklines on the inner shell are a mock turtleneck style while in some styles, the neckline on the outer jacket completely covers to just below the chin. Added features of women's ski jackets are snap closure panels over the zipper tracking, detachable hoods that snap at the back and sides of the neck of the jacket and a pocket especially sized for a cell phone. The hoods on these ski jackets may be lined in fleece that snap to keep the hood stationary when not in use.

Fabric features of women's ski jackets may be an outer layer of durable waterproof nylon for the basic shell. Other fabrics may be goose down with a quilted design and a polyester or tricot lining over the goose down lofting. Some ski jackets for women have an outer fabric layer of nylon ripstop material. One especially nice feature that may be included are heat packs that are built into pockets of these jackets. One other attractive feature in some styles is a zippered chest pocket above the waist. This is especially handy for tucking an extra pair of gloves or handkerchief for quick access while on the slopes.

Some ski jackets for women have Velcro attached to the outer sleeve and gloves that grip the Velcro strip to create a complete seal between jacket and gloves. This feature is well appreciated as it prevents loss of a glove while skiing. The slashed pockets on the sides of the ski jacket are large enough to store a small water bottle or a woolen ski cap and sunglasses. These ski jackets are available in a broad range of colors and size to meet most any skier's preferences.

It's important to insure that a safe body temperature is maintained while skiing. Check the labels on some ski jackets. They may include a temperature advisory that will provide the lowest mean temperature in which to wear the jacket with relative warmth. If this isn't included in the label, check the manufacturer's leaflet that is usually available at the time of sale. Or, inquire with the sales clerk at time of purchase.
